Let our loss be your gain!

Through a recent series of events, an old heart condition has resurfaced and I am now forced to move back to the city to be near a medical facility for the next year. Sadly, we must sell our dream home and move back to Cuenca as soon as possible.

When I permanently moved to Ecuador more than 25 years ago, it was still a secret. Nobody knew what an amazing country this was in which to live. The weather is mild all year round. The cost of living is very low. The people are friendly. Nearly all modern conveniences are available everywhere. There is natural gold to prospect all over the place. The medical treatment is second to none in the world. And the list goes on and on…

Obviously, the cat is out of the bag now and it is no longer a secret. Life continues to be very good here in all ways. Cuenca has been winning awards for several years in a row as the very best retirement capital in the world. The mass migration from all parts of the world to Ecuador has already begun. There is no sign yet as to when it will let up.

Subsequently, real estate prices have been rising like crazy in the cities. I could not or would not pay the going prices there. Fortunately, I do have one last secret up my sleeve and I am sharing it with you here today. My secret is called: Country Living in Ecuador.

Ever since we moved out into the country in the southern part of Ecuador, we have received so many e-mails from people who are curious about what life is like here. Below, you will find only a few of the questions we get over and over...

  • How far are you from the city?
  • How much does the land cost?
  • How much does it cost to build a house?
  • Where can you find contractors or builders?
  • Are there any existing houses for sale?
  • Is it safe?
  • What are your neighbors like?

To answer most of these questions, please take a look at our new Flipbook below, Our Mountain Paradise in Ecuador. We created this little book to document our move to the country and our house building project. We are still a work in progress, but we love our country lifestyle here. We have chosen to live completely off-grid on a mountaintop.

Coastal Living

That said, there is an altitude and micro-climate for all tastes. Some people don’t like living at 3,200 meters in a pine tree forest on top of a mountain as we do. That is fine, just ½ hour away from us in several different directions, you can live in a semi-tropical climate at only 500 meters of altitude. There truly is something for everyone.

Jungle Living

I am Offering a New Custom Tour Service!

Due to popular demand, I have decided to offer a private, country living Real Estate Tour Service. I know of a range of properties and homes that are for sale, from Cuenca down to Loja and beyond. We have several of those properties listed here in Flipbooks on this page. There are others available as well.

I can custom make a tour for you depending on your interests. I can pick you up in Cuenca and take you anywhere you would like to investigate. I can arrange the hotels and dining depending on your tastes.

Besides taking a serious look at what is available, this is also a fun adventure unlike any other. Would you like to take a little side trip up over the Andes Mountains and down into the Amazon jungle? No problem there. I know every nook and cranny of the back country.

E-mail me (sdgrist @ yahoo.com (remove the spaces)) if you are interested in knowing more. We can arrange for a Skype call to set up the details with you. We can also include up to 3 people on our adventure for the same price.

Please have a look at these beautiful properties below. Some of them already have homes built on them and others are raw land. We'll be happy to take you to visit any or all of them.

These are Flipbooks. You can click on the center of the images to open the books. Then you can click on the arrows or on the page corners to turn the pages. When you have finished, you can hit the "escape" button on your computer keyboard to put the books away. Also, please make sure that you have Adobe Flash added to your browser. If not, the Flipbooks will not open properly.

Here is only a small part of what International Living has to say about life in Ecuador:

"As far as I’m concerned, Ecuador rocks. It may be a small country, but it has more to offer than you can imagine…great cities and quiet villages….the majestic snowcapped Andes mountains…impossibly beautiful beaches…and the glorious Amazon rainforest.

Importantly, Ecuador has a low cost of living and some of the world’s lowest real estate prices - making a very comfortable retirement lifestyle more than affordable."
