Gold from Black Sand?

I have located a beach that is largely black sand on a lake in Louisiana. There are higher bluffs adjacent to the beach and there are large sandstone rocks scattered across the same area. Is this area a possible prospect for a search?

Stan's response: Hi Larry, Most often, black sands are found that do not contain any gold at all. You would only find gold in these black sands if there is (was) a gold source eroding from relatively nearby. The only way to really know is to pan the black sands. Normally, I would take a cross section of a dozen samples or so from the area. The more samples you pan, the more sure you can be about the presence of gold or not.
